You might already be aware that last December saw some important updates to the furlough scheme rules.
One important change concerned the payment of employees’ notice pay while on furlough, to prevent the scheme from being used for any employee that is retiring, being made redundant, or is working their notice.
It was made clear by HM Treasury that an employer can no longer claim in respect of an employee who is serving out any sort of notice period.
This is for all notice, whether contractual or statutory, or in relation to resignation, retirement or redundancy. All notice must be funded entirely by the employer and not claimed for through the CJRS.
Please note that employers will need to make an adjustment in cases where an employee subsequently starts a contractual or statutory notice period on a day covered by a previously submitted claim.
You can find out more details on the GOV.UK website. If you wish to discuss this further or need advice relating to your business, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with a member of the Britebooks team today.
